Purpose

Teaches instructor candidates the knowledge and skills needed to conduct Learn to Swim classes, Parent and Child Aquatics, Guard Start, Water Safety Presentations and Basic Water Rescue. Candidates will learn how to use the course materials, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participant’s progress.

Prerequisites

  • Be at least 16 years of age by the last scheduled session of the instructor course.
  • Must be able to demonstrate each of the six strokes (front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and butterfly) at a Learn to Swim Level 4, in addition to floating on back and treading water for one minute.
